According to reports, intense rainfall has led to flash floods across almost half of Kenya, causing severe damage to homes and infrastructure. As at 24 April 2024, about 40,000 people have been evacuated due to the floods, and at least 32 recorded fatalities. Major roads have been blocked off in Nairobi as emergency response teams have been dispatched to assist people affected by the floods and conduct search and rescue operations.

The El NiƱo phenomenon is one of the factors behind heavy rainfall in East Africa at this time.
