eBay: $59 Million settlement

eBay Inc. has reached a settlement with the US Justice Department after it alleged that the company sold thousands of pill presses and encapsulating machines. The report states that eBay failed to comply with the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), which requires companies to keep strict records of such transactions and report them to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The equipment sold could be used to make counterfeit medicines laced with fentanyl, which plays a major role in the rise of drug overdoses in the United States. As part of the agreement, eBay has agreed to a $59 million USD settlement to avoid litigation costs. The report further mentions that the multinational e-commerce giant denied the allegations and agreed to take further measures to ensure compliance with the CSA.

In January 2024, Incognito Blog reported an eBay harassment fine settlement of $3 million USD.
