Chile: Wildfire kills 112

The Republic of Chile is a country on the southwestern side of South America, with a population of 19.6 million residents as of 2023. It is bordered by Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and the Drake Passage. According to recent reports, devastating wildfires in various areas of Chile have led to significant damage to forests, homes, and vehicles, resulting in at least 112 fatalities.

About 372 residents were missing in the port city of Valparaíso, and nearly 1,400 houses have been destroyed by the fires. With over 40 fires currently burning across the region, emergency responders are working to evacuate those affected.

The report further mentions that 1 person has been arrested in connection with the fires. The president also declared a state of emergency in the city of Viña del Mar and Valparaiso. The El Nino weather phenomenon are supposedly driving forces behind an increasingly warm planet.
