Nairobi is the largest city in the East African nation of Kenya. Founded in 1899, it is the primary location of multiple international and Kenyan businesses. The capital city boasts of a population of about 4.3 million residents as of 2019, and is usually referred to as ‘The Green City in the Sun’.
According to the BBC, a gas carrying vehicle exploded in the Embakasi region of Nairobi and injured at least 271 people, with 3 confirmed fatalities. The initial report assumed the explosion was from a gas plant explosion but that assumption has been clarified. Several apartment buildings in the region were also affected as rescue operations continue.
