A proof of ownership (POC) certificate has been introduced for all vehicle owners in Nigeria, as part of the documents to be renewed annually. Previously, this was only required of customers who purchase used vehicles but with the new policy, all classes of vehicles would need to obtain the POC certificate.
According to Channels TV, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Abdulhafiz Toriola made the announcement today June 27, stating that this new policy aims to strengthen the verification of registered vehicles in the country.
The certificate would cost 1,000 Naira and is expected to contain the vehicle’s registration details including license number, model, and year, in addition to the owner’s personal information. This policy is going to be implemented in July 2023 as approved by the Lagos State Government.
